3Q’s : Masa Mara on Destroying Borders with Fashion.

“Fashion is a voice, a tool that can be used to educate.”

“Migration plays such a big role in the world today that I found it very easy to call my collection ‘Migration is Beautiful  #destroyallborders‘”, says Eli Gold of Masa Mara on the brand’s AW20 collection. “My collection mirrors the fact that migration is not a problem but a process.  I wanted to share the untold side of immigrant stories”.

The statement, posted on their Instagram, is a pretty succinct idea of the why behind the Rwandan-born and SA-based brand. We get to know more about them ahead of our collaboration with Masa Mara for the You + Three raffle.

Describe Masa Mara & what you do in 3 sentences.

Masa Mara is fashion brand that focuses on both art and storytelling. Inspired by the harmony that exists between past and present, the traditional and the modern. Our designs honor cultural wear of various tribes while blending these element with active wear.

Why do you think it’s important for brands to advocate social issues?

I believe that fashion is a voice, a tool that can be used to educate. It a voice that can’t be ignored so we have to use it very carefully.
